The new version of Jade fixes the instability of the tab interface when interacting with more than a handful of documents. The tab interface is still being modified so that it displays better and ultimately is more usable than it is now.

New Features

  • Theme Support – Now you can download theme’s uploaded from various users and you can customize your own skin. They are simple to download and simple to install.
  • Theme Selection Dialog Box – Theme support is now in the root menu, off of the “Settings” section. It is very simple to change between theme’s you have recently downloaded.
  • Raw Text Support – Jade natively supports raw text output out of all types of files, but does not yet support plug-ins or multiple file types. Its a long process of creating the extensibility, but we are getting closer to our goal.

What’s next to come?

  • WYSIWYG – A what you see is what you get blog editor, for quick formatted documents.
  • Plug-In Support – Jade will soon become the multi-document editor it has been boasting to be. The goal is to have 2 different type of plug ins. The first type of plug-ins will be File Handlers, which will have the ability to change the ‘text object’ into something specific for that file, will be called on an open of that specific file type, and will be sent the data from the object to save the file itself.

Jade is a Open Source Multiple Document Editor, which allows you to modify your documents in the same editor. Instead of having to download various editors for hundreds of different documents, you can download Jade!

Jade is open source, which means the source is made public for future modification, plus a community of select Jade users modify and fix bugs in Jade. Once you report a bug, the community at Jade will look it over and get it fixed as soon as possible.

Jade is built on the Adobe® AIR™ run-time which allows the project to be built in a modern programming language and to open up extensibility in a consistent programming language. Unlike most Open Source Projects, Jade compiles under one run-time and one language which provides us quick debugging and fast release times.

Jade is available under the “Download” navigation option.

What’s coming?

Real Support for Themes: Right now your theme is defined in a file, which you will have to manually edit to change your theme. In the future, you’ll be able to double click on a theme file and it will install the theme for you. In the future, you will also be able to change theme’s on-the-go, via a menu option.

WYSIWYG Editor: Post to a blog frequently, want a different color or font for your document? In the future the answer will be as simple as clicking a view change button. In the future, you will be able to switch from plain/text editor to a full What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) Editor.

Extensibility: The vision is to allow you access to other documents besides plain text and formatted text documents. In the future, you will be able to download ‘extensions’ which will connect a document of a certain type to your editor (mainly by file extension or mime type.)
