Jade's current (out-of-the-box) features and future release features. Note: these features do not include user created plug-ins, or user created themes.

Contents

[edit] Current Features

These are features included with the latest release of Jade, sometimes it may take a while for a feature to show on this list. If you think a feature is missing please ask a admin.

[edit] Simple Text Editor

Jade includes a simple text editor for viewing pure text documents only. Supports most text formats, and no knowledge if it supports multiple languages.

[edit] Text Storage (save/load)

Jade allows you to open any file with standard text characters inside Jade and pages the file to memory. However support for paging within a file is not yet included but plans are being drawn to support large files. Jade allows you to save a document in any format/file extension and allows you to open the save file.

[edit] Tab and File Recovery

Jade supports file recovery, all through this feature has not been fully tested Jade has been able to recover 90% of lost files. Jade saves files to a temporary directory every time a tab is changed. Plans are being made to save the recovery files every 10-15 minutes.

[edit] Multiple Document Tab Display

Jade has multiple document tap display. Each tab is reference to a recovery file and only the selected tab is visible in virtual memory where inactive tabs will be sent to a temporary location in the operating system hard disk. The tabs appear to be recoverable when Jade closes unexpectedly, by using the File Recovery.

[edit] Recent Documents

Jade uses a EGT SmartSense File to store the list of recent documents. This list of recent documents comes with content in earlier release and simple removing the config.rcname.egt file will fix this problem.

Commonly when a file is removed Jade will not open or display a message dialog, however Jade will 'act' as if it is opened. If you run into an issue while using this feature removing the config.rcname.egt fill will fix this issue.

[edit] Ribbon Like Interface

Jade's file menu is hidden in a Ribbon like interface. Although the ribbon interface is larger than most to support touchscreen input, the Ribbon interface helps to hide commonly unused features from a normal user. To access this menu simple click on the Jade Gemstone (or Jade Logo) to view the "Recent Documents," "File Menu," "Tab Menu," "Settings Menu," "Help Menu, and the quick exit button.

The icons displayed to the left of the Jade Gemstone is the New Note, Open Note, Save Changes, and the exit buttons.

[edit] Multiple Files Supported

Jade supports the Unicode encoded files and many other plain text file types.

Plans are being put into place which will extent Jade to allow access to other file types, such as XML, HTML, DOC, and many more file types.

[edit] Themes

Jade supports custom user created themes to allow users to customize their Jade User Experience and the User Interface (UI). For more information visit the themes page.

[edit] Up and Coming Features

These are the features that are being planned for the next couple of Jade releases.

[edit] Plug-Ins

We hope to allow the user the possibility to use plug-ins which will extend Jades features by "piggy" backing off of Jades fired events by using Event Handlers and accessing the various embed functions of Jade by using the Jade API.

For example we would like to see multiple file types being support by Jade by various plug-ins. We would also like to some extension of Jade's functionality across file types like a Spell Checker, a Text Formatting, and the possibilities are endless.

[edit] WYSIWYG Editor

A WYSIWYG Editor, is a standard What You See Is What You Get Editor for various rich text formats such as RTF, HTML, XML, and DOC formats. These editors are commonly used in document editing programs such as Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, and many online applications, such as blogs, use these editors as well.

[edit] Preview Document Editor

A preview document editor will help plug-ins display specific file data in its published format.

[edit] Future Features

These features have been mentioned and might be included. If you have a feature you'd like to see in jade, add it here and describe the feature below.

[edit] Online Storage

Yes, another cloud service just for Jade... Ug.

The idea is to support the sharing of files through various document storage providers.

[edit] MAC Network Support

We know that Apple does not play nice with Jade. We do not know why, by Jade does not support opening files over a MAC computer. This has yet to be confirmed, but we'd like to support this no problem.

[edit] Forever Compiler

Jade does not yet support a full implementation of the EGT Forever Compiler, to do so Adobe will need to right support for the EGT Forever Compiler in its Adobe Air Runtime. Until this happens only certain features will be supported, so Jade will operate on your current operating system (see List of Supported Operating System) and will only be faster when loading the LIC database.

[edit] EGT Node Network Support

In order for Jade to work on an EGT Node based Network, Jade needs to incorporate the Forever Compiler Network Protocols. This would be a matter of Adobe supporting operating systems using the Forever Compiler.
